Self-Improvement

Why This Habit Is More Important Than Technical Skills

Most people think that success in business is one smooth straight line. That’s why most people end up with frustration.

I will give you an example. When you practice shooting basketball and nobody is around, you can shoot 50 balls without missing it. Why? Because there is no pressure and distractions around you.

But in the actual game, lots of distractions inside the court. Your teammates and coach might not believe in you. The audience will ”boo” you. They will try their best just to lose your confidence and lose the game. That’s hard.

The problem is that we are too focused on technical skills like shooting, creating and selling stuff, cooking and the like. I’m not saying to disregard technical skills. It’s very important in business.

But I suggest focusing more on building success habits. It’s more on self-improvement and proper mindset. It’s more on attitude and goodness.

If people ”boo” you and you are weak, you would possibly quit even you practice every day to improve your skills.

The question now is how to develop success habits. Simple, it’s the habits you do in your everyday life. It’s the small decisions you make every day both in life and business.

If your co-workers told you that you are incompetent, what’s your reaction? Do you practice to be calm or you lose control?

If your friends told you that your chicken curry tastes so bad, what is your habit or reaction about it? Do you shout or fight at them or you accept honest feedback and improve yourself?

Our habits, decisions, and reactions to small things regardless if it’s in business or life determine your success in business.

If you easily get pissed off at a beggar because he doesn’t smell good, you might be easily pissed off at your employees if they don’t deliver what you expect.

For me, technical skills are important, but success/good habits are far more important.
