This in-demand remote job pays up to $250 an hour and doesn’t require a degree

If your goal is to achieve a six-figure income while working from the comfort of your home, you should consider pursuing a career in marketing.

The emergence of the Covid-19 pandemic brought about a surge in the demand for digital marketing. The public health crisis forced businesses to rethink their traditional marketing strategies, and an increasing number of consumers began shopping online.

Remarkably, even three years after the pandemic’s onset, this demand for marketing professionals continues to thrive. According to LinkedIn, marketing managers are currently one of the fastest-growing career fields in the United States.

In addition to this, job boards like FlexJobs and Freelancer.com have witnessed a significant increase in the availability of remote, hybrid, and freelance marketing positions.

Projections from the Bureau of Labor Statistics indicate that the number of jobs for marketing managers is anticipated to increase by 6.6% over the next decade, surpassing the average growth rate for all occupations.

Skills worth six-figure salaries

While certain marketing positions may stipulate the need for a bachelor’s degree, it’s not an absolute prerequisite for forging a successful career as a remote marketing manager. What holds more significance, according to Toni Frana, the lead career expert at FlexJobs, are the technical skills you can bring to the table. Most marketing roles demand a solid grasp of skills like SEO, data analysis, and social media, among others.

For instance, a recent job listing for a product manager at Atlassian, offering a minimum salary of $107,000, mandates 5-7 years of marketing experience and strong writing capabilities, but does not make a degree a mandatory requirement.

To acquire these essential skills, you have the option of watching instructional videos on platforms like YouTube or enrolling in online courses that can lead to certifications in specific areas. For example, Google provides a well-regarded certificate program in digital marketing and e-commerce.

Frana also suggests the creation of an online portfolio that showcases your relevant marketing projects and work, including any client testimonials, as this can significantly enhance your prospects in the field.

Turning a marketing side hustle into a full-time business

According to Fiverr, a prominent freelancing marketplace, the majority of freelance marketing positions also offer the flexibility of remote work. This means that marketing managers have the freedom to work from anywhere and set their own working hours, as long as they meet their project deadlines.

Fiverr has observed a consistent increase in the demand for marketing talent in recent months. Between April and September, searches for “digital marketing manager” on its platform surged by a remarkable 640%.

Your level of experience plays a crucial role in determining the rates you can charge. On platforms like Freelancer.com, marketing managers can charge as much as $250 per hour for their services.

One example is Alex Martkovich, a freelance digital marketing manager based in Toronto, who offers his services on Fiverr. His rates range from $150 to $3,995. Despite starting digital marketing as a side gig more than 15 years ago, with a bachelor’s degree in robotics and a master’s degree in electrical engineering, he successfully transitioned it into his full-time career in 2020.

Martkovich attributes his success to building a roster of recurring clients and enhancing his skills through online marketing courses provided by Google and Meta. Currently, he enjoys the freedom to travel and work remotely, averaging 30-40 hours per week on the job.

Beyond the flexibility, Martkovich highlights one of the greatest advantages of working as a remote marketing manager—stability. He explains that the need for successful marketing extends not only across the United States but around the world. His clients are spread across various countries, including the United States, Australia, Canada, and the UK, emphasizing the enduring demand for this work in driving businesses to success globally.
