As anticipated, guests gathered at the wedding of US Marine Corps sergeant Joshua Newville and Senior Airman Emily Leehan were expecting a joyous celebration. However, they were in for a surprise as the event unfolded into one of the most heartwarming scenes.
As Leehan began reciting her vows, it became evident that she had prepared special words for her stepson, Gage. The young boy, brimming with excitement at witnessing his daddy’s wedding, not only expressed his approval of his future mom but radiated genuine happiness for his father’s choice.
Her speech resonated so deeply with everyone present that a collective ‘aww’ echoed through the audience. Tears of joy were visible on the faces of most attendees, but it was Gage’s heartfelt reaction that truly captured the spotlight.
As he continued to absorb his stepmother’s words, Gage couldn’t contain his emotions and broke down in a flood of tears, expressing his overwhelming feelings by wrapping his arms tightly around her.
“I want you to be safe, to give your best effort, and to always strive to be a good person,” Leehan expressed. Sensing the overwhelming emotion in the child, she gently added, “Don’t cry, baby.”
Continuing her heartfelt words, she shared, “The last thing I hope you learn is that you are a special boy. You are incredibly smart, handsome, and kind to others. You have played a vital role in shaping me into the woman I am today. While I may not have given you the gift of life, life has undoubtedly given me the incredible gift of you.”
After composing themselves, the couple continued to exchange their vows.
Following the unforgettable ceremony, it was reported that the newlyweds remained on active duty without delay. Despite their desire for a honeymoon, they had to postpone it as both needed to return to Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst.
